You may just be able to make out on the photo of this games table that there is a crack that runs across the entire top from left to right whish not only split the top veneer but unfortunately the inlay that created the chess board as well.

I had to painstakingly remove all the relevant pieces of veneer, find replacement veneer which had a similiar grain. I then positioned, glued and then repolished the top so that the original damage was completely repaired.

The table below shows some of the restoration work that is sometimes necessary to carry out.

These close-ups of the inlay table above show just how bleached the colours had become over time and when fully restored are quite clearly impressive. The customer was amazed, she had no idea it had any green in it!

As you can see from the photo below the veneershad not only faded but also begun lifting from the table. These were painstakingly re-glued.

I've included the two following photos to illustrate what can be achieved with a very dull, lifeless looking table base that had spent many years living in a smoky household. After being stripped back and restored the beautiful marquetry inlay on the legs can clearly be seen.

The photo below shows base of the mahogany card-table during the restoration process where it needed to be dismantled, re-glued and reassembled.

Parquetry Inlay Table

As you can see from this photo this parquetry table had a large crack running sdtraight across the middle of it. The woodwork was repaired and then every piece of veneer along the crack was replaced individually to finish the repair.

This is a beautiful table. Very high quality and quite rare. It had a few scratches on the top which I removed and then re-polished.
